Canvas Quick Tips - Muting or Un-muting Assignments

As you grade assignments Canvas automatically releases the grade to students as it is submitted. However, sometimes an instructor may wish to keep the grades hidden until all assignments are graded. This function is called “Muting” in Canvas. It is very easy to do and only requires the change of one setting. Here are the full instructions:

How do I mute or unmute an assignment in the Gradebook?

Simply select the drop down menu from the assignment on the gradebook

Select Mute. To release the grades, select un-mute on the same menu.
