Housing Updates Fall 2025
WSSU is welcoming its largest incoming class ever this fall.
As a result, on-campus and off-campus housing options are in high demand.
The Department of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) has updated its processes to accommodate students based on classification and housing application status.
This page provides important housing updates and next steps for students and families as of Thursday, July 24th, 2025.
New First-Time Freshmen
- The housing application for new first-time freshmen remains open until July 31st, 2025! Spaces are LIMITED. Apply Now!
- Incoming students will be placed in one of the following residence halls:
Atkins, Brown, Covington, Martin-Schexnider (MSX), or Moore Hall. - Incoming students are invited to take a virtual tour of our residence halls.
- Students should regularly check their WSSU email and the StarRez portal for information.
Transfer and Continuing Students (Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate)
- All transfer/ continuing student housing is currently full. We are NOT accepting any new applications at this time. If you are on the waitlist, you may remain on it, but we strongly encourage you to begin seeking alternative housing arrangements. Space cannot be guaranteed at this time.
- Housing and Residence Life will notify students if/when applications reopen.
- Students with a housing assignment, your placement is confirmed.
- Students with incomplete applications may complete their applications to be added to the waitlist, but placement is not guaranteed.
Cancellation and Waitlist Information
- Students who canceled their application or assignment on or before the June 30th deadline will not incur a penalty.
- After June 30th, a $500 cancellation fee applies to students who have confirmed placements.
- Waitlisted students who cancel before receiving a placement will receive a full refund of the $135 application fee.
- Waitlist placements are made on a first-applied, first-placed basis and continue into early September.
Room Change Requests are on Hold
- Housing and Residence Life is at full capacity.
- We are currently unable to accommodate any room change requests.
- We plan to revisit and communicate room change procedures following the census period.
