Assessment Audits
Assessment Audit Timelines
Each unit defined in WSSU's assessment management system is expected to participate in audits. The audits ask reviewers to complete a series of questions about the assessment reports. The audits are intended to ensure appropriate checks and balances are in place and individuals from all units are engaging in assessment.
Major, Certificate, and Minor-Level Assessment Audit Timeline (Academic Units)
Watermark Planning & Self-Study data entry is to be completed by the faculty member who is typically the Program Coordinator and/or a member of the Academic Assessment Committee; department chairs should provide support and assistance when needed. The expectation is that Watermark Planning & Self-Study will be up-to-date prior to the annual assessment audits. The audit is then completed and signed by relevant reviewers during the audit session. Reviewers complete audits for units not under their purview. Annually, academic units will undergo a reporting and use of data review.

Department-Level Assessment Audit Timeline (Academic Units)
Watermark Planning & Self-Study data entry is to be completed by the unit's Department Chair. Department-level units will be expected, at minimum, to provide an example of where they used data to make changes and improvements (i.e., “Best Example Presentation”) for the 2026 audits.
Administrative Assessment Audit Timeline (Administrative and Educational/Student Support Units)
The expectation is that each unit will submit their assessment plan to the Office of Institutional Assessment & Research (iar@wssu.edu) by Friday, July 3, 2026. The audit is then completed and signed by relevant reviewers during the audit session. Reviewers complete audit forms for units not under their purview. Annually, administrative units will receive a full assessment plan review .

Completed assessment audits are shared with the unit through Watermark Planning & Self-Study. Stakeholders should contact iar@wssu.edu if they have questions about their audit results.
