Digital Accessibility
Digital accessibility is an important part of our work here at Winston-Salem State University. Making sure our documents and communications are accessible ensures that everyone can benefit, regardless of ability. Read our Accessibility Statement.
Whether it is email, Word documents, PDFs, PowerPoint, videos, discussion boards, or any type of digital content, we are required to ensure they meet accessibility guidelines. This page serves as a repository for materials that will help individuals learn about accessibility standards and provide resources for both self-training and training with an expert.
What are the Guidelines?
- The Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, requires that all federally funded institutions ensure that people with disabilities are not discriminated against, including when accessing digital information or technology.
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act is a similar law that requires us to use and maintain communication technologies that people with disabilities can use.
- WCAG 2.0 is a web standard that we are required to follow that works to ensure that content displayed on our web site's are accessible to users with disabilities.
