Committee

The Professional Development Committee (PDC) shall review and make funding recommendations on matters that enhance professional effectiveness of faculty members in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and research. This committee shall also assume the responsibilities of the former Faculty Development Committee (see WSSU Constitution). It is designed to provide you with assistance in accessing funds for your professional development needs.

The application cycle for PDC grants for the current academic year will be September 9, 2017 - May 15, 2018. Please review the policies of the PDC by reviewing the PDC Handbook.

Inquiries about the PDC application process for travel, research, and colloquia should be directed to the administrative personnel in the academic departments. All other questions may be sent to the PDC via email at pdc@wssu.edu.

Applying for software adds several more layers to the approval process and may delay awarding of funds. Please contact IT before requesting funds for software. Any software owned by the university already cannot be purchased.

All materials are subject to review by areas outside of the PDC. Please be aware that the PDC can only approve the application and occasionally the committee may find that certain items cannot be funded under university, local, state, or federal guidelines. If possible, the PDC will work to assist faculty with alternatives. Furthermore, as all funds are part of a larger grant, the committee may need to convene to find answers to questions that have not been raised in the past. This process may add extra time to the approval process.

All documents are to be submitted online; there is no longer a printed and signed component. Please do not email any documents.
